Why Stack Ceramic Over PPF?

PPF stops rocks. Ceramic stops stains. Together, they create virtually maintenance-free paint protection.

110°+

Self-Cleaning PPF

Extreme hydrophobicity makes water sheet off, carrying dirt with it. Your wrapped car stays cleaner between washes.

99%

Prevents Yellowing

UV-blocking ceramic layer protects the film from sun damage that causes older PPF to yellow or discolor.

50%

Easier Maintenance

Bug guts, bird droppings, and tree sap release with a simple rinse instead of scrubbing that can damage film edges.

10yr

Extended Film Life

Ceramic coating acts as a sacrificial layer, taking the environmental abuse instead of your PPF.

The Ultimate Shield: Combining PPF and Ceramic

Paint protection film is incredible at stopping physical damage — rock chips, key scratches, shopping cart dings. But PPF alone has weaknesses: it can stain from hard water, collect bugs and sap in its texture, and over time UV rays can yellow older films.

Ceramic coating excels at chemical and environmental protection — water beading, UV blocking, stain resistance. But ceramic alone won't stop a rock from chipping your paint. It's just too thin.

Layer them together and you eliminate both weaknesses. The PPF handles impacts while the ceramic handles everything else. It's the same principle as sunscreen over armor — different threats, different shields.

XPEL FUSION PLUS for PPF & Stealth Films

Not all ceramic coatings bond well with PPF. The film's polyurethane surface is different from painted metal, and cheap coatings can peel, streak, or create an uneven appearance. XPEL FUSION PLUS is specifically engineered to bond with XPEL's films, creating a permanent molecular bond rather than just sitting on top.

For XPEL Stealth owners, this matters even more. Standard ceramic coatings will add unwanted gloss to your satin finish. FUSION PLUS maintains the factory matte look while adding all the hydrophobic and protective benefits. No patches, no shiny spots, just enhanced protection.

Real-World Benefits in Sacramento

Sacramento's combination of highway debris, hard water, and intense UV makes the PPF + ceramic combo especially valuable. Highway 50 construction trucks throw rocks. Sacramento's water leaves spots that can permanently stain unprotected PPF. And summer sun that yellows cheap film. With ceramic over quality PPF, you're protected from all of it.

PPF + Ceramic FAQs

Can you ceramic coat over XPEL Stealth?

Yes, but you need the right product. Standard ceramic coatings will add gloss to Stealth's satin finish — ruining the look. We use XPEL FUSION PLUS Matte specifically formulated for satin films. It adds hydrophobic protection while preserving the factory matte appearance. No patchiness, no shiny spots.

Do I need ceramic coating if I already have PPF?

They protect against different things. PPF stops rock chips and scratches — physical damage. Ceramic stops water spots, staining, and UV damage — chemical and environmental damage. Together, you get virtually maintenance-free paint protection. For Sacramento commuters dealing with highway debris AND hard water, the combo is worth it.

When should ceramic coating be applied to new PPF?

We apply it during the same visit, after the PPF has been installed and inspected. The film needs to be clean and defect-free before coating. Trying to coat PPF yourself later risks contamination and poor adhesion. Best to do it right the first time.
